The last I heard from him was in May on my birthday, where he once again assured he was going to get stronger and pick up where he left off. Umemoto was originally scheduled to stay with me in April for some ventures, but his illness made it impossible. Yuzo Koshiro admitted yesterday on Twitter that Umemoto was an influence on him.ĭue to the sudden nature of his passing I couldn't attend the funeral, but I'm scheduling a trip to see his grave and meet his surviving family. Even though his name is rather obscure in the West, his influence from the PC-98 era is unmistakable. He was an inspiration and incredibly supportive member of the video game music community and was loved by all.
